What’s new - Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) 2010

Microsoft Dynamics (Great Plains) GP 2010 will be launching in May 2010 with a host of new features
and functionality. I will be keeping this page updated with details of the new features and benefits
as they are released from Microsoft over the coming months and we will also be holding a
pre-launch event to demonstrate the product.

Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) 2010 - What's new

Dynamics GP 2010 is the biggest release yet of Dynamics GP. There is new functionality and
enhancements within most areas of the product. The tables below outline some of the new
functionality for the main system and financials modules. 

Dynamics GP 2010 Reporting enhancements

New Management Reporter which will replace Frx for General ledger reporting

Modern user friendly interface with functionality above that offered by Frx although still retaining the same reporting concepts.

 Predictive Modelling And Analysis with Excel

Tools integrating to Excel include the Excel Reports which now have are additional ways to use them including Power Pivot tables and drill-back from Excel Reports to GP

Better Management information

Additional SQL reporting services Reports

Over 90 SRS reports are included that can be used via a web browser, SharePoint, Outlook or within the dashboards .

Improved out of the box reporting

Customisable Dashboards And KPI's With Drill-Back

There are now customizable dashboards built of SQL Reporting Services (SRS) reports. Each user can decide which ones they want to display, create their own and drill-back to GP from these reports.

Dynamics GP 2010 Security enhancements

Remember user and company

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 has options for a user to initially log in, and have the application automatically log them in to Microsoft Dynamics GP and their company at future logins.

This option also speeds up login time for users and helps administrators who are often overwhelmed with password reset and administration issues.

Copy user security settings

Additional functionality to simplify the process of setting up an individual's security access.

Use the Copy User Security window to copy one user's security settings to another saving time and ensuring common feature set

Display options for security

New display options are available  In the security windows, a user no longer needs to scroll through the complete list of items to see which have been selected

Increases efficiency for the System Administrator as they assign security access to users

Dynamics GP 2010 System enhancements

Lookup Default Views

Views can be set as the default view for lookups, and the next time the lookup window is opened, it will use the assigned default view

enable quicker access to information for users. Also, options to restrict inactive records have been added to lookup windows .

Right Click functionality

Right-click menu functionality has been added in a number of places within Microsoft Dynamics GP.

This takes advantage of functionality quite familiar to most computer users.

Navigation Pane changes and enhancements

User can hide the navigation pane if the module is registered but is not selected in the Registration window

Additional Report Printing Options

The Report destination window allows a user to select Standard, which uses the Report Writer engine or Template, which uses Microsoft® Word as the layout engine.

These new options provide increased flexibility when printing and generating reports in Microsoft Dynamics GP

Home Page Cues

Cues can be used instead of text for Reminders on the Home Page. A cue is an icon that increases or decreases in size as the number of records in a particular reminder category changes i.e. overdue invoices

Microsoft Dynamics Online Connect

The home page in Microsoft Dynamics GP hosts a new Microsoft Dynamics Online Connect section that makes the benefits of the Microsoft Dynamics Business Ready Enhancement Plan (BREP) easy to find and access.

The slides provide links to perform self-help support, get product related information, and access training all from the Microsoft Dynamics GP home page

Unified Communications capabilities

Communication with vendors, customers and employees from Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 is possible through instant messaging, email, and direct phone calls using Microsoft® Office Communicator

Communication options with business contacts are enhanced in Microsoft Dynamics GP with this new integration with Office Communicator

Dynamics GP 2010 General Ledger enhancements

Clearing recurring batch transactions

If a recurring batch is entered and posted, the batch distribution lines can be cleared, and the amounts posted to accounts can be changed for the next posting of the recurring batch

Combine Budgets

Combining multiple budgets is now possible with Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 

 helpful when multiple departments in an organization create their own budgets, and it is necessary to consolidate them into one budget.

Reporting Ledgers

includes features that meet compliance standards for International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

You can use multiple reporting ledgers and identify transactions for local Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), IFRS, or other accounting purposes

Transaction Dimension Code Security 

The Analytical Accounting On The Fly security option will enable users to have access rights to a transaction dimension they have added
